Sylar is an evolved human. In his genes is an amazing ability that has been named Intuitive Aptitude. With it, Sylar can come to understand nearly anything he gets a good look at, including the minds and genetics of other humans. But with it also comes a hunger for more knowledge and more power.

Sylar uses his abilities to understand how the abilities of other evolved human's work by examining their brains, and then takes those abilities for himself, incorporating them into his DNA. He does this by cutting open their skulls and looking for himself. He has amassed quite the collection this way.

Abilities

Intuitive Aptitude: Sylar's main and original ability. It is an innate ability to understand how things work. He uses this to take the abilities of other evolved humans. By studying his victims' brains he is able to determine how their powers work and replicate those abilities himself. He can obtain the abilities of other people without killing them, through empathy and understanding them, but Sylar has not yet learned this. This ability translates to many things beyond people. Sylar's Intuitive Aptitude allows him to understand how virtually anything works if he can get a good look at it or find information on it. This ability creates a hunger for knowledge that Sylar has a very hard time controlling, and which will often lead him to seek out more specials like himself to kill.
Telekinesis: Acquired from killing Brian Davis, this is the second most used ability in Sylar's collection. He uses it for everything from defense to 'flight' and even to cut open the skulls of his victims without having to touch them. He can exert enough telekinetic force to flip a truck through the air or tear sheet metal, and he has enough control to cut off the top of a person's skull to expose the brain. Sylar has repeatedly been shown using telekinesis to shield himself from bullets, as well as to augment his own physical strength. He is able to use this power with relatively little concentration. Sylar typically uses hand gestures in conjunction with telekinetic feats, although he can use this ability without them.
Shattering: Acquired from killing Trevor Zeitlan, this is the ability to make objects explode or "shatter" by pointing at them. Only shown to work on glass objects in canon.
Freezing: Acquired from killing James Walker, this is the ability to freeze things, from water to roads and even people. This ability turns moisture in the air or objects themselves into ice.
Melting: Acquired from killing Zane Taylor, is the ability to liquify solid matter. (In canon it is used on a variety of materials, a handset phone, a lamp (lampshade and all), a wrench, toaster, and even beer bottles.) The result gets a bit messy
Enhanced hearing: Acquired from killing Dale Smither, with this ability, he can hear a pin drop from a mile away. This ability was passive and could also be used against him.
Precognition: Acquired from killing Isaac Mendez, it is the ability to paint or draw the future, though the images were often unclear and imprecise.
Induced radioactivity: Acquired from killing Ted Sprague, it is the ability to emit and control large amounts of deadly and harmful radiation, to the point of turning himself into a human atomic bomb. In canon he was shown to have harnessed enough control over the power to create tiny localized explosions in the palm of his hands

As a note I am also welcome to all kinds of CR, positive or negative, including friendships, vendettas, revenge or even relationships. Sylar is an easily manipulated but highly unstable individual and a lot of interesting interactions can be had with that.
